Internet Radio

North Manchester FM (Produced by 'Three's A Crowd')

The Internet radio station 'North Manchester FM' was created by the group called 'Three's A Crowd'. One of the members of this group used to go to Eccles college and has moved onto start his own radio station.the type of music that they play is to a very small sub cultural genera. this is called a 'Nichae'. they played a lot of music in the hour. with a few station ID's and Jingles but not many. there was a bit of talking but no nearly as mush as there was music.

Gold
Gold is a internet radio station. They play music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. They specializes in 'Easy Listing' Music, This is where the music can just run in the back round. I Wanted to know what type of things an internet radio has on its show. I listened to an hour of the radio station and these are my results:

The DJ was called 'Tony Dibbin'. He was very interactive with the audience when he spoke. Tony was very interested on what the public had to offer and talk about. Altho he only spoke 3 or 4 times, he was very good and presenting because the content he said was very direct at the target audience but at the same time was interesting for others.

There was on avrage 13 adverts every hour. These were mostly again targted at the select audiance. they were about 'Injury claims' and 'help lines'. but also there was adverts for other aged people, because there was adverts about new cars coming out. There was also adverts about superstores.

Within the hour there was 2 news reports. these were on celebrity news. there was 11jingles within the hour too. these were just station ID's with the odd promotion. During the hour they played 10 songs. these songs were too old to be in the charts but they were still good songs, and i found them 'easy listening'.

Commercial Radio

Capital FM is a contemporary hits radio station. they play the top 40 hits on the charts. They tell you whats coming up, whats has just come out and whats already come out and is high in the charts. All new songs that make it into the charts are announced and told to the listeners. A small percentage of there time is on the news. during this short period there is 6 news stories. 4 of them a new report, 1 a weather announcement and the last one a sports update.
They spent alot of there time doing station ID's. we counted 23. Altho most of them are extremely short they were played in nearly every blank bit in between songs and in between most adverts. there were 14 adverts and 14 songs played in this hour of our listing. witch means they are evenly distributed in a  good song to advert ratio.
There was 3 promotional things played and talked about. these consisted of games and other activities that could be played and won by a 'Lucky' caller.
The DJ Spoke 4 times averaging once every 15mins. this isn't bad considering the amount of things that were played within this hour.
the DJ language was very formal and informative. they spoke about celebrity information and other happy and cheerful things. they also announced some songs, as they were played back to back.

Smooth radio plays older music and alot of classical. They tend to play 'Easy listning' music for the over 50's as they got bought by GMG and they changed the format of the music to cater for the older generation and they now play easy listening rather than jazz. within the hour there was 20 songs played. these were old songs that aren't in the charts anymore, but were probably in the charts when they came out. amongst all the songs there was 24 adverts and 14 station ID's. this means they focus mostly on adverts then music, This is because they need advertising for money and this helps them stay afloat and make money. Even there adverts are aimed at the target audience. There was to news reports, both of them about traffic. we herd the Presenter talk 3 times and they talked about celebrity news and the announced some of the music. not all of the music was announced as they were played back to back. the promotional area of this hour was very limited. they only had one promotion. this was about how to win a game that the radio studio runs.

Public Service Radio

This is a public service radio that i like listing to, BBC 1's target audience is the youth network(16-25) . They play music that is currently in the charts. Because they aren't allowed to do advertising, we wanted to see what they did with an hour of broadcasting, within this hour we found out that there was 12 songs played, each one of these were in the top 40. some of the song were new releases that have just come out. in-between most of the songs were station ID's and other jingles. also there were 3 promotions, these were about other channels and game to call in and play with the presenter.
The presenter and the co-presenter talked about 10 times during this hour. they were happy and enthusiastic. they were very talkative when the audience called in and also with one another in he studio.

The songs in the hour was all chart music and was all appropriate for our age group. this means our age will be more likely to listen to it because the music played is played for us. Chart music and recent updates are spoken about on this radio and they told us what songs were new and  whats going old.
